New car smell certainly gets a lot of recognition, but auto experts have found that smell isn't the only one of the five senses car shoppers like to have satisfied: cabin quietness is a leading determining factor in consumer purchase consideration. Needless to say, the folks at Ford are taking heed!

The bright minds at our favorite American automaker have heard consumers' cries for more whisper-quiet cabins, and so, they've come up with the world's first fully mobile aeroacoustic wind tunnel. In short, this machine serves to enable developers to find the source of unwanted wind noise earlier in the production process so that there issues can be tended to faster. The result? The sweet serenity of a nearly silent driving experience.

“This project was born from a desire to be the best when it comes to controlling and limiting the cabin noise customers are so sensitive to,” said Bill Gulker, Ford wind noise core supervisor. “And our new mobile wind tunnel saves our engineers time and increases productivity. It’s a fine example of the innovation mindset we’re trying to incorporate into everything we do.”
